Hydro-Seeding Supplies

Seed Solutions for Every Landscape

Nexterra offers lawn, turf, native grass, wildflower, forage, and wildlife seed products tailored to the Upper Midwest, backed by more than 85 years of proven experience.

Hydro-seeding accelerates establishment by combining fiber structure, moisture retention, and surface protection in a single application. Nexterra's Ramy Turf hydro-seeding systems are developed specifically for Midwestern soils and climate cycles, delivering dependable early coverage, uniform germination, and lasting stand strength across slopes, corridors, and disturbed ground. Contractors gain a fast-working system that installs cleanly, holds under rainfall, and supports vegetation that performs through seasonal stress.

Performance-Driven Hydro-Seeding Materials

The following hydraulic mulch and additive solutions are engineered to anchor seed, retain moisture, and improve germination consistency across varied site conditions.

  • Terra-Blend UltraGro: combines wood and paper fiber with a germination stimulant to establish rapid early cover and support uniform stand development on mixed soil profiles.
  • Terra-Wood: features one hundred percent thermally refined wood fiber, delivering high water-holding capacity that protects seed during critical early growth on exposed or sloped ground.
  • Flexterra HP Flexible Growth Medium: forms a reinforced growth matrix that provides immediate erosion control while promoting deep-rooted, persistent vegetation strength through full establishment.
  • RTP Hydro-Additive System: includes binders, bio-stimulants, nutrient supplements, and tackifiers formulated to improve adhesion, increase germination success, and reduce rework under field conditions.

Most contractors in the Upper Midwest run hydro-seeders in the 600–3,000 gallon range. All listed mulches spray cleanly through standard jet-agitated and mechanical-agitated tanks without modifications. Typical application rates range from 1,800 to 4,000 pounds per acre, increasing with slope gradient and soil exposure. On steep or highly erodible slopes, application rates commonly increase to 3,500–4,500 pounds per acre to maintain matrix integrity through early rainfall events.

Flexterra HP has been independently tested to achieve very low C-Factor performance, supporting erosion protection on slopes up to 1:1 when properly applied and anchored. Thermally refined wood fiber mulches consistently provide higher water-holding capacity compared to standard paper blends, helping maintain moisture contact that supports faster germination during dry cycles.

Upstream Application Performance

Vegetation success begins at the tank where fiber, water, seed, and additives must blend evenly for reliable coverage. When the slurry achieves proper consistency and distribution, it seats firmly to the soil surface, improves seed-to-soil contact, and reduces wash-off during early rainfall events. This controlled application forms a stable base for root initiation and early plant anchoring, supporting predictable establishment from the start.

Tank condition and mixing method directly influence slurry performance. Blade alignment, nozzle selection, and recirculation patterns affect fiber length and slurry consistency. Most crews achieve reliable coverage with full slurry agitation for 5 to 12 minutes depending on tank capacity and load composition. Clean, uniform spray patterns maintain consistent fiber distribution, reducing thin areas that are most vulnerable to early storm events.

Sequencing also matters. Introducing seed and additives before mulch promotes direct soil contact and even germination. Adding mulch last supports uniform fiber encapsulation and surface lock, improving stand resilience during the critical early establishment phase.

Downstream Vegetation Stability

Once germination begins, the mulch matrix continues to support the stand by holding moisture, reducing surface erosion, and protecting young root systems. As the vegetation deepens and matures, the site transitions from temporary erosion control to a stable, self-sustaining plant community that maintains soil placement, withstands seasonal conditions, and performs without escalating maintenance inputs.
